HOW WE GRADE OUR CHRISTMAS TREES
At Cadeby Tree Trust, every wholesale Christmas tree is measured and graded to help trade customers choose the right trees for their retail site, display space or seasonal range.
Our grading system is designed to give buyers a clear understanding of tree size, shape and quality, while our colour-tagging system helps identify different size and grade bands quickly during selection, handling and dispatch.
Because different trees grow in different ways, we measure sheared and unsheared trees slightly differently. This helps ensure each tree is assessed fairly and consistently.
SHEARED TREE
SHEARED VS UNSHEARED CHRISTMAS TREES
Our cut Christmas trees are measured differently depending on whether they are sheared or unsheared.
Sheared trees are measured from the bottom of the butt to halfway up the leader.
Unsheared trees are measured from the bottom of the butt to the point where the first whorl folds up to meet the leader.

UNDERSTANDING GRADES & SIZES
Our trees are graded according to a combination of size, species, shape and overall quality. The exact grade structure can vary depending on the species and the type of tree, but the aim is always the same: to help customers select the right trees for their market, price point and display requirements.
For the coming season, we are simplifying our sizing structure. Trees in the 200cm–250cm range will be grouped under the relevant 200cm grade, depending on the tree type, rather than using a separate yellow or gold size band.
COLOUR TAGS EXPLAINED
Each tree is identified using a colour tag system, helping our team and customers recognise size and grade bands quickly. The tag colour varies depending on the species, size, cut and grade of the tree.
This system is especially useful for trade buyers handling larger quantities of wholesale Christmas trees, where quick identification helps with loading, dispatch, retail setup and stock organisation.
